Out with the new, in with the old

Is there a generally accepted name for the area of the economy occupied by buying or selling used merchandise? Is that it? The ‘Used Merchandise Economy’? I once thought ‘Underground Economy’ might be the phrase I sought but came to realize that term refers to transactions most people consider illegal.

I do a lot of shopping in antique malls, thrift stores, junk shops and used book/record/CD stores. Over the years I’ve contributed frequently to whatever that segment is called. The items found there, even if I don’t buy them for myself, are far more interesting than what you see in any modern shopping mall.

It probably defines me.

About Marcus

Who me? Introverted, neurotic, self-absorbed, increasingly cynical observer of human nature and part time social critic in hiding. Most of my life spent avoiding growing up. The naive idealistic passions of youth have evolved into the eclectic eccentricities of adulthood. Northeast Florida small-town native, related to people I can't relate to. Simultaneously my own best friend and worst enemy. Politically and spiritually unaffiliated, my personal ideologies put me all over the map or off it completely.
