The seasonal doldrums seem to be hitting harder than usual this year. Surrounded by the normal frantic masses of Holiday shoppers and observers but I remain detached. At work we are having a “Wii World of Sports”** thing tonite just for I.S. staff members. Of course this is not geared to be a significant other/spousal type activity which is unfortunate because I don’t know of anything else that qualifies as “social” where my wife and I could attend together – including family, friends or organizations – which might get us “in the mood”.

Do others have as little to do this time of year as we seem to?

**up to a half dozen different Wii games set up around our largest meeting/conference room where anyone can participate in their favorite Wii “sport” if interested.

About Marcus

Who me? Introverted, neurotic, self-absorbed, increasingly cynical observer of human nature and part time social critic in hiding. Most of my life spent avoiding growing up. The naive idealistic passions of youth have evolved into the eclectic eccentricities of adulthood. Northeast Florida small-town native, related to people I can't relate to. Simultaneously my own best friend and worst enemy. Politically and spiritually unaffiliated, my personal ideologies put me all over the map or off it completely.

I do think there’s a fairly widespread undercurrent of gloom this year. We have no social events at work– had only a sad employees-only lunch last year. And we’ve told the girls (my parent’s granddaughters) that it’s going to be subdued gift-giving– but I don’t think they believe us. So there’s that sense of failure and foreboding. And the weather isn’t helping!
