Benchley must have written this on a Monday morning

“I think that I am violating no confidence when I say that Nature holds many mysteries which we humans have not fathomed as yet. Some of them may not even be worth fathoming.” – Robert Benchley

About Marcus

Who me? Introverted, neurotic, self-absorbed, increasingly cynical observer of human nature and part time social critic in hiding. Most of my life spent avoiding growing up. The naive idealistic passions of youth have evolved into the eclectic eccentricities of adulthood. Northeast Florida small-town native, related to people I can't relate to. Simultaneously my own best friend and worst enemy. Politically and spiritually unaffiliated, my personal ideologies put me all over the map or off it completely.

I read a lot of Benchley in high school, and a couple of months ago I borrowed a couple of his anthologies from the library. There’s no doubt his voice and attitude shaped me as a writer, especially back then, but in revisiting him, I found his writing was quaint and not nearly as funny as I remembered.
That experience made me decide it probably was a good idea to not revisit S.J. Perelman.
