Recidivism…for the masses

Really now. Who are the bigger burdens to society? The homeless, panhandling, free spirited, alcoholic bum you see jaywalking thru rush hour traffic while delivering his obscenity laced rant to any street sign he encounters, spending the occasional night locked in a government facility at taxpayers expense without apologies and regrets? Or is it the common wage earner, who hates his job, hates his boss, hates his debts, hates his elected representatives, hates anything or anyone he deems as different or beneath him but who still gets up everyday and reminds himself of everything he hates, continuing in a lifestyle that will hasten the medical conditions proven to put him in his grave too soon?

About Marcus

Who me? Introverted, neurotic, self-absorbed, increasingly cynical observer of human nature and part time social critic in hiding. Most of my life spent avoiding growing up. The naive idealistic passions of youth have evolved into the eclectic eccentricities of adulthood. Northeast Florida small-town native, related to people I can't relate to. Simultaneously my own best friend and worst enemy. Politically and spiritually unaffiliated, my personal ideologies put me all over the map or off it completely.

One Response to Recidivism…for the masses

  1. I wholeheartedly pick the common wage earner. Without any statistics to back me up, I’d be willing to bet there are thousands of him to every one panhandler.
The common wage earner you describe is a sorry excuse of a person, someone whose dark, miserable mood seeps and spreads, infecting those around him, as in, “Misery loves company.”
