Letters to the editor

For better or worse my preferred method of learning about the condition of the world we live in is the newspaper. Two sections that seem to be the most relevant or revealing are ‘letters to the editor’ and the comics. Leaving the comics to speak for themselves, over the past weeks several letters have caught my attention.

The first was from someone who commented on Bank of America’s stance on choosing to use hybrid cars for whatever purpose they were needed. The writer called out BoA by asking if they were so committed to the environment why not just stop giving loans to anyone who wanted to by a polluting gas-guzzler? If the choice is between the environment and making money I’m pretty sure I know which one BoA will choose.

The second letter was also related to driving. Someone wrote about observations made while waiting for service at a NC Div. of Motor Vehicles office. Another customer learned that NC would not grant them a new license due to it having been revoked for whatever infraction was on record. The customer stated if that was the case they would simply go across the nearby border and obtain a license in South Carolina. After a quick check by the DMV employee the customer was informed a ban on that particular individual was also in place for SC. Storming out of the DMV and into his car the customer loudly complained about how he was being forced to drive illegally. So much for accepting responsibility for you own actions – just blame it on the state!

In other unrelated news I removed myself from ‘myspace.com’.
