second thoughts

If your local newspaper is like the one here, you have been treated to recycled ‘Peanuts’ comics strips since Charles Schulz retired. Not that I mind-I don’t remember or failed to read them the first time around. Occasionally they cause a smile or make me stop and think. Take yesterday’s strip; Linus is attacked by Snoopy resulting in a fierce struggle for possession of the well known blanket. The last panel, after Linus has won the battle, has Linus saying these word- “The struggle for security knows no season!”.

I can imagine Homeland Security or various members, past and present, of the Bush administration co-opting Peanuts to put a more user-friendly face on various government programs if they had only known. Or is Schulz talking to us from his grave and having a little laugh?

About Marcus

Who me? Introverted, neurotic, self-absorbed, increasingly cynical observer of human nature and part time social critic in hiding. Most of my life spent avoiding growing up. The naive idealistic passions of youth have evolved into the eclectic eccentricities of adulthood. Northeast Florida small-town native, related to people I can't relate to. Simultaneously my own best friend and worst enemy. Politically and spiritually unaffiliated, my personal ideologies put me all over the map or off it completely.
