definitely not ‘War and Remembrance’

Managed to sit down this afternoon and read an entire Herman Wouk novel. One of his lesser known and shorter works(110 pages), in 1949 Wouk wrote a piece of science-fiction titled ‘The “Lomokome” Papers’. It’s a not-so-subtle cautionary tale about the nuclear arms race we were in at the time. Remember the original Star Trek episode ‘A Taste of Armageddon’ where two societies fight wars by proxy yet still have to sacrifice large numbers of victims as if a real conflict had taken place? Same plot to the point where someone commented Wouk should have received a writing credit for that episode. Wouk’s sci-fi novel hasn’t aged well but I enjoyed reading it more than I would watching some old Star Trek reruns.

About Marcus

Who me? Introverted, neurotic, self-absorbed, increasingly cynical observer of human nature and part time social critic in hiding. Most of my life spent avoiding growing up. The naive idealistic passions of youth have evolved into the eclectic eccentricities of adulthood. Northeast Florida small-town native, related to people I can't relate to. Simultaneously my own best friend and worst enemy. Politically and spiritually unaffiliated, my personal ideologies put me all over the map or off it completely.
