mentalageof_4‘s recent post asking about out favorite Star Trek: TNG character really had me working to come up with an answer. The task would have been a lot easier if she would have inquired about the major network news personality who made the biggest impression on our lives. My choice would be Charlie Farquharson (FARK-uh-son). I can say that prior to cable/satellite TV, Charlie brought a level of credibility and sophistication to broadcast journalism that few have matched. Plus I thought I detected a subversive glimmer in Charlie’s eyes when he delivered the news. Or it could have been the moonshine.

About Marcus

Who me? Introverted, neurotic, self-absorbed, increasingly cynical observer of human nature and part time social critic in hiding. Most of my life spent avoiding growing up. The naive idealistic passions of youth have evolved into the eclectic eccentricities of adulthood. Northeast Florida small-town native, related to people I can't relate to. Simultaneously my own best friend and worst enemy. Politically and spiritually unaffiliated, my personal ideologies put me all over the map or off it completely.

  1. I think you’re right. I always was one to trust the word of a Canadian on crucial issues, anyway. : )

Absolutely. Not that I watched Network News regularly but I always thought Peter Jennings was the most sincere. All those crack-pots who rant about Jews controlling show business had it wrong. If you do some reseach you find out it’s really the Canadians. Tho ‘Charlie Farquharson’ is still around his on the air spirit was carried forward by Bob and Doug McKenzie.
