It’s all about “us” (U.S.?)

One again the news media focuses on the known Center of the Universe – er, I mean the United States, as it puts all of its citizen evacuees front and center in various headlines and sound bites instead of focusing on the actual problems in Israel/Lebanon.

About Marcus

Who me? Introverted, neurotic, self-absorbed, increasingly cynical observer of human nature and part time social critic in hiding. Most of my life spent avoiding growing up. The naive idealistic passions of youth have evolved into the eclectic eccentricities of adulthood. Northeast Florida small-town native, related to people I can't relate to. Simultaneously my own best friend and worst enemy. Politically and spiritually unaffiliated, my personal ideologies put me all over the map or off it completely.

Exactly… did you miss the memo that the only human life that’s important is AMERICAN human life? It drives me up the wall. When I worked in the media I refused to say things like, “132 people were killed, three of them Americans,” giving the impression that American life is more valuable.
I get so fed up with the attitude that nothing matters that doesn’t directly affect an American. Yes, it’s great to know people are being evacuated, and it’s good to hear what they have to say – but it would also be nice to hear more about WHY there’s a war going on.
