dealin’ in the underground economy

I spent money this weekend that went into various pockets or bank accounts but most of it was well out the retail mainstream shopping usually performed this time of year; used books, used CD and an 1940’s fountain pen. Plus I helped several people avoid spending money at Amazon or Borders by sending them my used books in the mail via paperbackswap.com. Postal Service Media Mail rate is much cheaper than buying the books (even at a used bookstore) plus you save several dollars not having to drive there and back.

Included in my haul was Jerzy Kosinski’s first novel (The Painted Bird), 21 jazz CDs from the ’50 and ’60s plus one by the Cowboy Junkies and a 1948 Parker 51 w/12K gold filled cap in good working condition.

I did treat myself with a visit to Starbucks plus a dozen fresh ‘real” bagels instead of the puny frozen grocery store variety.

About Marcus

Who me? Introverted, neurotic, self-absorbed, increasingly cynical observer of human nature and part time social critic in hiding. Most of my life spent avoiding growing up. The naive idealistic passions of youth have evolved into the eclectic eccentricities of adulthood. Northeast Florida small-town native, related to people I can't relate to. Simultaneously my own best friend and worst enemy. Politically and spiritually unaffiliated, my personal ideologies put me all over the map or off it completely.
