another death in jazz

living to play, dying to live
musicians who outlived fame
now meeting their destiny
reading obituaries
brings out the dead
assemble the band to play
the traditional New Orleans
funeral dirge one last time
before fading into obscurity
on out-of-print record albums
Charlie Parker led the way
death his ultimate improvisation
alcohol, heroin or automobiles
without modern safety features
first took the reckless or unlucky
cancer, heart disease and old age
now finish off the remainder

About Marcus

Who me? Introverted, neurotic, self-absorbed, increasingly cynical observer of human nature and part time social critic in hiding. Most of my life spent avoiding growing up. The naive idealistic passions of youth have evolved into the eclectic eccentricities of adulthood. Northeast Florida small-town native, related to people I can't relate to. Simultaneously my own best friend and worst enemy. Politically and spiritually unaffiliated, my personal ideologies put me all over the map or off it completely.
