dharma for one (‘some of the dharma’ pages 93-100)

J.K. wishes to write ‘the Dharma’ in verse but isn’t up to the task. Also criticizes Buddha for “his insistence on begging”. Knowing when he was a kid “that every day should be Saturday” is Tao to J.K.

“Buddhism is a system of Mind Control
Tao is a philosophy without disciplinary rules
But because of this Tao can become Mao (Tse Tung)”
(wasn’t Mao’s teachings a form of mind control?)

“Buddhism is for Absolutes. Tao is for nature… Popeye is for the funny page.” (J.K. having a bit of fun with all of this? Hopefully he won’t quote from the ‘Tao of Pooh’ or the Gospel according to Peanuts.)

Two forms of Buddhism. Hinayana(little vehicle), salvation for the few versus Mahayana(large vehicle), salvation for the masses. ‘H.’ is the root, ‘M.’ is the blossom compared to a Protestant overlay of the the original.(Catholicism?)

“the Catholic Religion of Aquinas, the Pope…is the only surviving primitive religion in the civilized world.” (study of Catholic practices toward heretics and non-believers show it to be barbaric and totally uncivilized)

“don’t fear death and don’t grieve the death of beloved ones” (Do Buddhists play the cowbell? How much cowbell?)

About Marcus

Who me? Introverted, neurotic, self-absorbed, increasingly cynical observer of human nature and part time social critic in hiding. Most of my life spent avoiding growing up. The naive idealistic passions of youth have evolved into the eclectic eccentricities of adulthood. Northeast Florida small-town native, related to people I can't relate to. Simultaneously my own best friend and worst enemy. Politically and spiritually unaffiliated, my personal ideologies put me all over the map or off it completely.
