Anyone who pays close attention to my LJ Info will notice my interests change frequently. One interest I had listed(but removed) was random lj searches, something I frequently perform. When I checked to see who else shared the same interest I found four names. One hadn’t posted in over a year and the other three were ‘friends only’. I wonder if they know how to spell irony? Do they think people who perform random searches will want to add them as friends based on their journal layout or background wallpaper? Maybe their icons or bio will do the trick. Does actual post content matter to anyone? Obviously not in their case.

This week’s epiphany – I’m an old school nerd/geek. When shown the latest high-end laptop PC, I wasn’t impressed. A little later it hit me; someone having the latest cellphone/camera/mp3-player/electric shaver/DVD/home theater/decoder-ring multi-function gizmo from Best Buy or where ever doesn’t give me a case of techno-envy. But show me your backyard with several tall ham radio towers holding all sorts of aluminum and wire antennas, Tudor electric football game or a rather large vinyl album collection and I’ll probably go “wow!”.

About Marcus

Who me? Introverted, neurotic, self-absorbed, increasingly cynical observer of human nature and part time social critic in hiding. Most of my life spent avoiding growing up. The naive idealistic passions of youth have evolved into the eclectic eccentricities of adulthood. Northeast Florida small-town native, related to people I can't relate to. Simultaneously my own best friend and worst enemy. Politically and spiritually unaffiliated, my personal ideologies put me all over the map or off it completely.

Appreciating, understanding and utilizing older technology takes time and a certain kind of admiration of knowing from where things have come.

You got me to look at your interests. Funny, we don’t share any highlighted one although I share an interest in almost everything on your list. I like to check the profiles of folks on my friend’s list now and then, but I usually forget to do that. Some folks never change theirs – and some don’t have anything on theirs at all. Other people change it frequently.
I like doing those interest link searches. Still haven’t found another person who likes green onion pancakes, but maybe someday.

I think a lot of women tend to have the “friends only” thing because they get tired of loser guys posting comments to their journals on the order of “U single? Want 2 d8?”, but I could be wrong. 🙂 I know of a couple of people that have had LJ “stalkers” and have gone friends-only as a result, too.
