Recently (re)watching ‘A Clockwork Orange’ caused some David Bowie lyrics from “Suffragette City” to start bouncing around in my head.
What most lyric sheets show as “this mellow-thighed chick just put my spine out of place”, my brain had somehow translated into Nadsat (droog-speak from Kubrick’s movie) causing me to think David was singing “this mal-o-fact chick just put my spine out of place”.
In my mind “mal-o-fact” being some sort of code word for devious, harmful, malicious, etc. when stated in an ‘Alexander de Large’/Malcolm McDowell voice.
Possible deeper meaning to be found when you look up “malchick” in the Nadsat dictionary and find it is Russian for ‘boy’. Hmm.
I think my version has more interesting possibilities.
