Remembrance of Birthdays Past

As I approach #49 my mind drifts back to previous years-
#13 One of the big ones in terms of milestones. The day I became a teenager. Celebrated at Cloudland Canyon St. Park in northwest Georgia. Our family took a camping vacation that year primarily staying at various Georgia State Parks; Kolomoki Indian Mound near Blakely, F.D.R. at Pine Mountain(saw nearby Warm Springs and Callaway Gardens), non-State Park campground near Atlanta(crowded) while we visited Six Flags, then up to Cloudland Canyon where we saw Lookout Mountain and Rock City in nearby Tennessee. Finally down to Little Ocmulgee near McRae on our way back home in Florida. I enjoyed the Georgia parks so much that as an adult I revisited some I’ve listed(including a camping honeymoon in 1980 – Kolomoki) and many others since.

Something else about that date, Aug. 18, 1969 is interesting to me. It was the day after the Woodstock Festival closed. One era ended and a new one began for me.

#23 The first day(morning after) I spent together after waking up with the woman who would become my wife.

About Marcus

Who me? Introverted, neurotic, self-absorbed, increasingly cynical observer of human nature and part time social critic in hiding. Most of my life spent avoiding growing up. The naive idealistic passions of youth have evolved into the eclectic eccentricities of adulthood. Northeast Florida small-town native, related to people I can't relate to. Simultaneously my own best friend and worst enemy. Politically and spiritually unaffiliated, my personal ideologies put me all over the map or off it completely.
