I wish they would get their story straight

How many times have we heard people complaining about some tragedy in life and they question aloud, to what ever higher spiritual authority they believe in, why this had to occur in the first place and then turn around the next time something happens and state it must have been “the will” of that higher authority and we shouldn’t question it.

Isn’t that convenient?

Next week is the fifth anniversary of the Concorde crashing on take-off from Paris. 113 were killed including 96 Germans. I don’t have anything against Germans personally but I did react when a German Bishop at a memorial service for his 96 countrymen on-board asked, “God, where were you in Paris?”

My answer?

If God didn’t show up for 6 million Jews, Poles, Russians, gypsies, children, elderly, sick, etc. what makes you think he is going to put in an appearance for 96 tourists?

Who me? Introverted, neurotic, self-absorbed, increasingly cynical observer of human nature and part time social critic in hiding. Most of my life spent avoiding growing up. The naive idealistic passions of youth have evolved into the eclectic eccentricities of adulthood. Northeast Florida small-town native, related to people I can't relate to. Simultaneously my own best friend and worst enemy. Politically and spiritually unaffiliated, my personal ideologies put me all over the map or off it completely.

Oh, come on… You’re asking religion to be consistant and logical? What have you been smoking? And do you have any left to share with the rest of the class? 🙂

I admit that I take pleasure in all the accusations, finger-pointing and general condemnation that takes place between various religious groups, sects, denominations or religions. (as long as I stay out of the way of any actual gunfire) But when one of them approaches me preaching their message I tell them to go away and only come back when they have a unified story they ALL agree on. Which would be, let’s see…never!?
