Saturday rants or something

Discussing the current state of the movie industry (remakes, fluff, etc.) with my wife when she read this snippet from review of a current summer blockbuster – “intense action violence, disturbing images and some thematic elements”. Later I read this in another review – “thematic material…” Is ‘thematic’ a code word or euphemism used only in movie reviews? The dictionary was of no help showing the word to be an adjective.

Last week a Caucasian South Carolina congregation held a church service. OK, that in itself isn’t unusual but the purpose this time was to apologize for the actions of their ancestors against the local Negro inhabitants. History is primarily the record of actions by individuals or groups against others. Some of these make me less than proud to be associated with the human race but I deal with it personally. The only pledge that matters is the one I make to myself to treat all others with respect. Some groups though like to beat their breasts in public displays of atonement for something they had no part of and in most cases occurred before they were born. White guilt strikes again.

About Marcus

Who me? Introverted, neurotic, self-absorbed, increasingly cynical observer of human nature and part time social critic in hiding. Most of my life spent avoiding growing up. The naive idealistic passions of youth have evolved into the eclectic eccentricities of adulthood. Northeast Florida small-town native, related to people I can't relate to. Simultaneously my own best friend and worst enemy. Politically and spiritually unaffiliated, my personal ideologies put me all over the map or off it completely.
