I’m a ‘Dale Carnegie Course’ drop-out. I hated it. My boss at the time suggested I sign up and attend. Of the four to five dozen students, I was the only person to successfully demonstrate their ability to memorize then stand up in class and regurgitate the name of everyone in attendance. (or at least the only person outwardly geeky enough to show it could be done) Out of town business trips began to conflict with the class schedule until one evening the instructor told me I had missed too many sessions but could reenter the next scheduled course with full credit for the classes I did attend. I was glad to have a way out and did not return.
There was a delayed sense of making the right choice a year or two later when after buying our present home I met a next door neighbor and called her by her first and last name. She looked at me funny until I reminded her I was in her Dale Carnegie Course and had memorized her name. Only then did she remember me. Had I not told her would she have ever known who I was?
