happiness is a warm television

Returned this afternoon from a relaxing four day road trip to Salem, Virginia attending dog shows and just kicking back in the hills. When not at the shows(no wins to brag about), antique hunting(found a few old books for my collection) or sampling the local cuisine(Fast Freddy’s in Salem is great!) I found myself flipping around the various channels on the motel room television. So what’s so special about that? A year ago we decided to drop cable TV due to the repetitive nature of the programming. Just how many times can one sit thru “Raiders of the Lost Ark” or “Rocky”? Oh sure, I still watch some broadcast stuff. (but none of that “Reality” or “Idol” #*!$% though…see my interest list to figure out some of what I like) But in the motel room I had a revelation. Cable (or was it satellite?) programming is extremely violent! Yes, I watched a lot of it before, but now after all these months away from the onslaught I must be “re-sensitized” or something because it now repulses me.

Or am I just an old fuddy-duddy?

About Marcus

Who me? Introverted, neurotic, self-absorbed, increasingly cynical observer of human nature and part time social critic in hiding. Most of my life spent avoiding growing up. The naive idealistic passions of youth have evolved into the eclectic eccentricities of adulthood. Northeast Florida small-town native, related to people I can't relate to. Simultaneously my own best friend and worst enemy. Politically and spiritually unaffiliated, my personal ideologies put me all over the map or off it completely.
