“we’re number one!”, shouted Walter Mitty

sports – a subject that provides men, who can’t otherwise communicate, something to talk about. (from the subtlecynic’s dictionary)

Why do sports fans, generally but not always men, on the day after the “big” game make conversation with the pronoun ‘we’ inserted in their comments? “did you see when we scored?”, “we screwed up on defense”, “we played a great first half” (we-we-we) I want to ask them – “When you say ‘we’ what number was on your jersey?” or “I didn’t know you made the team.”

Unless you were on the playing field, court or track don’t insert yourself into a situation where you were a spectator (probably in front of a television) and not a participant.

About Marcus

Who me? Introverted, neurotic, self-absorbed, increasingly cynical observer of human nature and part time social critic in hiding. Most of my life spent avoiding growing up. The naive idealistic passions of youth have evolved into the eclectic eccentricities of adulthood. Northeast Florida small-town native, related to people I can't relate to. Simultaneously my own best friend and worst enemy. Politically and spiritually unaffiliated, my personal ideologies put me all over the map or off it completely.
